WHO WE ARE
The Community Basket is a newly created food pantry serving the Dutton, Caledonia, and Gaines Township areas; formerly Community Services of Dutton. In late November an emergency meeting was called of the existing board and concerned community members. The former pantry was in financial and staffing trouble and had proposed closing the doors on the pantry unless another group could fund and keep it in operation.
The group who took on this effort is the present pantry board, led by longtime CSD member Sue Wiluz. The budget was made and it was decided that if the financial goal was not met by December 31, 2018, the pantry would close. In just short of 40 days over $50,000 was raised from local churches, businesses, and individuals.
Early in January 2019, the newly formed board began the task of relocating, rebranding and basically remaking the former pantry. The new location is just a few doors down from the original site in a now renovated office site at 3178 68TH St. and the first open pantry day was in April of 2019.
We are very excited to be part of the community and offer relief to the deserving people of the Dutton and Caledonia areas and look forward to many years of service as well as adding additional help service as we move forward.
